The Orthopaedic Surgical Clinic has one management but is physically located in three different cities: Esbjerg, Grindsted og Brørup. The clinic has a variety of orthopaedic surgical functions including acute as well as planned surgery. The hip section is placed in both Esbjerg and Grindsted and manages a great number of hip implant surgeries. Professor Kjeld Søballe is connected to the orthopaedic surgical clinic that also numbers one PhD student. 

The South-western Hospital of Esbjerg uses, among others, Radio Stereometric Analysis (RSA) making it possible to do research projects on the implanted prosthesis' three dimensional motion relative to the surrounding bone over time. In a matter of two to five years the motion pattern can give a prognosis of the prosthesis' expected durability.
