Hvidovre Hospital was inaugurated in 1976, and is one of Denmark's newest and most modern hospitals. It is also one one of Denmark's biggest hospitals with 835 beds and 3.500 employees. Since 1 January 1995 the hospital has been part of Hovedstadens Sygehusfællesskab, H:S (the Capital's Hospital Community).

In recent years, the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery 333 has established a fruitful collaboration with the Hip Section and the Department of radiology at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Aarhus University Hospital, especially within epidemiologic osteoarthritis research and hip dysplasia.
